Excellence in Education Award

We’re excited to share that OHorizons was awarded a prestigious Make Magazine Editors’ Choice Red Ribbon for “Excellence in Education” at the 2016 World Maker Faire!

World Maker Faire, an annually held event in New York City that attracts around 90,000 visitors, is characterized as the Greatest Show and Tell on Earth—a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Of the nearly 1,000 exhibitors, we were 1 of approximately 20 projects to receive the Excellence in Education distinction!

At our kid-centric Make-Your-Own Water Filter Station, around 700 kids made their own water filters and an estimated 15,000 visitors directly interacted with us and learned about our mission.

We’d like to extend a special thanks to Steve Davee, Chief Maker Educator, for seeing the magic in our low-tech teaching. Please enjoy these pictures from the show.

The station was busy throughout the show.

We really focused on helping the kids connect-the-dots between the station & our field work.

It was a pleasure running this activity that expanded the youngsters scientific & world views.

The magazine/media production company Product Design & Development named OHorizons a Top 5 Exhibit at World Maker Faire 2016 and this is actually the 2nd year in a row that OHorizons was awarded a Ribbon from Make Media at World Maker Faire. In 2015, we received a “Editor’s Pick for Best in Show” Blue Ribbon.

We feel great about these accomplishments, but don’t worry, we haven’t lost focus on the reason for all of this: making sure all people have sustainable clean water access so they have a better opportunity to live healthy and productive lives.

In the near future, we’ll be releasing new updates, photos, and testimonials from our projects in Bangladesh and Kenya.

Thank you for your support.
